About
Load 'Em in the Dark Cattle Co.
Load
'Em in the Dark Cattle Co....the name itself invokes
images of dusk silently engulfing the heat of the sun
after a long, hot, sweaty day on a dusty trail filled
with longhorns, cattle dogs, and tough-as-nails cowboys
and cowgirls swinging ropes and perhaps brandishing a
few irons.
While the environment of Load 'Em in the Dark Cattle Co.
may be a little different than all that hoopla, it does
in fact include longhorns, cattle dogs, and
tough-as-nails cowboys and cowgirls swinging ropes to
compete for top prizes, money, and, of course, the
coveted title of "team roping champion."
Where Did It
All Begin?
Chris Freed found himself in a hopeless situation: he
was addicted to roping. He needed some practice cattle
to keep his passion moving forward, so he did what any
addicted roper would do: in 1982 he started putting on
roping productions to help pay for his practice cattle.
These roping events were generally held at the Golden
Spike Arena in Ogden, Utah. Sometimes only thirty teams
would show up, but it didn't matter to Chris! Every
little bit helped keep his hobby up and running.
Chris met Janie at a college rodeo and it didn't take
either one of 'em very long to figure out the two of
them together would be an unbeatable team...and not just
in the roping arena. They eventually got married and
have continuously worked toward a common goal. Nope ~ it
isn't matrimonial harmony; it's roping!
Chris and Janie tied the knot in 1985 and have two
talented children who can hold their own at any roping
they attend: Shelby and Pace. The entire family holds
high-numbered status in the USTRC and, therefore, knows
what it takes to put on a great ropin'! Roping is what
they DO. It's what they love and it's what they are
great at.
Each year Chris and Janie Freed purchase 700 to 900 head
of roping cattle. They now produce between 15 to 18
roping productions a year in Idaho, Nevada, Utah, and
Oregon.
Why Should
You Attend?
Fresh steer, a knowledgeable staff, and a team with the
know-how to put on a great roping event are just a few
of the reasons you should consider attending a Load 'Em
in the Dark production. Add to that quality prizes,
money, and a huge truck roping and you may find you have
a hard time staying away. Load 'Em in the Dark has
everything a roper could want...without a lot of silly
games and time wasted NOT roping.
Load 'Em in the Dark also works hard to make sure your
family feels welcome at each event. Make it a family
trip ~ come to a Load 'Em in the Dark Roping Event and
who knows? Your kid might be the next roping dummy
winner! Now that's something they can go to school
talking about...and will never forget!
